Now I could bore you with my life story on this page but let’s be frank, you don’t want to, nor do you need to know EVERYTHING about me. You just want to know what sets me apart from all the other designers out there!
The thing I’ve noticed that makes me different from others is my desire to think/be more than “just a designer”. By that I mean I want to do more than just the work I’m briefed to do. Being in the midst of a marketing department for many years and having the opportunity to work across a range mediums, creating a lot of different promotional material, I have a keen interest and exposure in the marketing side, the strategy involved and the analytics.
This allows me to get a better idea of what the team is trying to achieve with each particular artwork and even allows me improve the design. Seeing the feedback from campaigns helps me to understand what works and what doesn’t work and in turn, allows me to apply that knowledge to future projects. This approach allows me to think more like a marketer as well as a designer to create artwork that the target audience understands and engages with in the best possible way.
I also like to learn more about what I am designing for, no matter if its a brand, service or product. I like to keep an interest in its competitors and new industry trends, learn the brands promotional habits and limitations. I naturally start to retain product knowledge the longer I work with a company too. As someone who is very hard on himself and hates making mistakes, all these habits tend to assist me in not making them.
Apart from all that, I also design many things too! I like keeping up with new trends and getting inspiration from other great designs out there in the world. I’m always looking to improve and provide as much value to my workplace as possible. I can adapt to different styles guides and themes very easily and love the challenge it presents.
